4-Day Private Tour Petra Wadi Rum and Aqaba from Amman

Visiting Petra is, without question, a one-of-a-kind experience. Classified as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Petra was carved out of the rocky formations in Jordan’s southern desert by the Nabateans over 2000 years ago. What was once the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom, has only been rediscovered 200 years ago by a Swedish explorer. In recent years, more of the ‘Lost City’ has been uncovered, and with it, a plethora of hidden treasures.

The Nabatean Kingdom chose Petra as its capital around the 6th century BCE, carving a remarkable city out of the reddish rocks formations that Jordan is famous for. The extensive city was one of the most advanced for its time, complete with even a water management system. When the Roman Empire took over, the Nabatean Kingdom served as an effective trade route for spices.

Wadi Rum, the ‘valley of the moon’, is one of the most spectacular desert landscapes on earth. Around 60km northeast of the Red Sea and city of Aqaba, Wadi Rum’s natural beauty draws visitors from around the world who visit for jeep safaris, overnight Bedouin hospitality and experiences, as well as hiking, rock climbing, ATV, and hot air ballooning. Wadi Rum remains open desert with almost zero buildings, and its inhabitants are to this day the same Bedouin tribes who have lived here throughout history.

Wadi Rum is the largest ‘wadi’, dry valley, in Jordan. It is a diverse desert area, with tough rocky outcrops of red rock and flat areas covered in sand or salt. Many civilizations have inhabited the area, however always sparsely due to its tough and inhabitable nature. Today only a handful of Bedouin tribes live in the area, mostly in the Rum Village, which is the only population center for the area. Wadi Rum rose to fame in the west following the movie ‘Lawrence of Arabia‘ which followed the story of TE Lawrence when he fighting in then Transjordan during the Second World War.

Aqaba is the only coastal city in Jordan, an otherwise landlocked country. With the red mountains of Wadi Rum in the background and the Red Sea in the foreground, the stunning Aqaba boasts a beautiful setting. This port city is laden with luxurious resorts and hotels, ensuring a restful place to return to after a long day of touring Jordan. The main activities of Aqaba are coastal-friendly, like beach exploring, diving, water sports, and more.

Aqaba’s city center, markets, and neighborhoods are becoming increasingly attractive as well. Close to Wadi Rum, Petra, Aqaba is a haven for travelers. See our tours from Aqaba to decide which thrilling adventure best suits you.
